Re: Brand Identity Design
Animated email signatures, and where they work
An animated email signature is the block at the foot of your emails, with one small piece of movement in it — a logo that draws itself, a strip of rotating testimonials, a subtle shift of colour. The point is not decoration. It is that a signature is the one piece of branding you send out dozens of times a day without thinking about it.
The catch is that email clients are not browsers. Outlook on Windows renders through Word, Gmail strips most CSS, and Apple Mail behaves differently again. Anything relying on CSS animation simply will not run in most inboxes, so ours are built as optimised GIFs with a static fallback underneath — the movement plays where it can and the signature stays perfectly readable where it cannot.
Kept well under the size where mail servers start clipping messages, which is the usual reason a signature arrives broken.
